JUDO

What is Judo?

Judo, meaning "gentle way," was created as a physical, mental and moral discipline in Japan in 1882 by Kanō Jigorō. It is generally categorized as a modern martial art which later evolved into a combat and Olympic sport. The first time Judo was introduced to the Olympics was in 1932 via an informal demonstration, but became an official Olympic sport in the 1964 games, hosted in Tokyo. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where a competitor uses a throw to take an opponent to the ground and subdue them with a joint lock or choke.
